Female Fertility Test in Lahore

There is no single test for female fertility. A female fertility assessment is a set of investigations chosen for you, covering ovulation, hormones, the ovaries, the uterus and the fallopian tubes. Dr. Kamran Saleem explains what each test is for and orders only what is likely to help.

This is part of our Fertility Assessment & Diagnosis. Tests are recommended only when they are clinically appropriate and likely to guide your next step.

What Is a Female Fertility Test?

It is an assessment, not one blood test.

A fertility assessment starts with your history: your cycles, previous pregnancies or miscarriages, medical conditions, surgery, medicines and lifestyle. The tests that follow are chosen to answer the questions that history raises, so two women can have quite different sets of tests.

When Should You Have a Female Fertility Test?

Earlier testing is appropriate in several situations.

  • You have been trying to conceive for 12 months, or 6 months if you are over 35
  • Your periods are irregular, very infrequent or absent
  • You have a known gynaecological condition such as PCOS, endometriosis or fibroids
  • You have had a miscarriage or complications in a previous pregnancy
  • You have had pelvic infection, pelvic surgery or an ectopic pregnancy
  • You want to understand your fertility before planning pregnancy or freezing eggs

What Does the Assessment Include?

Each part answers a specific question.

  • Consultation and examination: your cycle, history, medicines and lifestyle
  • Hormone tests: AMH, FSH, LH, estradiol, prolactin, TSH and others where indicated
  • Ovulation test: whether, and when, you ovulate
  • Pelvic ultrasound: the uterus, the ovaries and the count of small follicles
  • Fallopian tube test (HSG): whether the tubes are open and the uterine cavity is normal
  • Blood investigations: for example blood count, blood sugar and infection screening where appropriate
  • STI/STD screening: where clinically indicated
  • Genetic or immune tests: only after recurrent miscarriage or repeated treatment failure

What a Female Fertility Test Can Diagnose

Most causes fall into a handful of groups.

  • Ovulation disorders, including PCOS, thyroid disease, high prolactin and hypothalamic causes
  • Reduced ovarian reserve or premature ovarian insufficiency
  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, including hydrosalpinx
  • Uterine problems such as fibroids, polyps, adhesions or a uterine septum
  • Endometriosis and adenomyosis, suspected from symptoms and scans
  • Pelvic infection damage
  • Causes of recurrent miscarriage, such as antiphospholipid syndrome, thyroid disease or uterine problems
  • Unexplained infertility, when all tests are normal

How PCOS Is Diagnosed

PCOS is one of the most common causes of irregular ovulation.

PCOS is diagnosed when at least two of three features are present: irregular or absent ovulation, signs of high androgens (on examination or blood tests), and polycystic-appearing ovaries on ultrasound, once other causes have been excluded. Hormone tests and a scan are the core of what is sometimes called the PCOS fertility test.

If PCOS is confirmed, treatment is tailored to your goals. See ovulation induction & PCOS.

Endometriosis, Fibroids and Polyps

Structural and pelvic causes are looked for as well.

Painful periods, pain with intercourse and chronic pelvic pain raise the suspicion of endometriosis. An ultrasound can show cysts of endometriosis and many uterine problems, and MRI or laparoscopy is used when the picture is unclear or surgery is being planned.

Fibroids, polyps and a uterine septum can be seen on ultrasound or during a tube test. Whether they matter depends on their size and position, and not every fibroid needs treatment.

A Typical Testing Timeline

Timing is built around your cycle.

  • Days 2 to 4 of the period: FSH, LH and estradiol, and an early scan with a follicle count
  • Any day: AMH, TSH and prolactin
  • Around mid-cycle: follicle tracking or an ovulation kit to confirm the fertile window
  • About 7 days before your next period: progesterone, to confirm ovulation
  • After your period stops and before ovulation, roughly days 6 to 12: tube test (HSG) if advised

Do You Need Every Test?

No, and we will tell you if you do not.

Some women need only a few simple tests, while others benefit from a fuller assessment. If your periods are regular and nothing else points to a problem, a full hormone panel may add little. Testing is recommended only when it is likely to change what happens next.

After Your Results

You leave with a plan, not just a report.

Results are explained in plain language and a written next-steps plan follows. Depending on the findings, that may mean reassurance, ovulation treatment, IUI, IVF or ICSI only where clinically indicated. You can also ask for an independent second opinion.

Female Fertility Test Cost in Lahore

Frequently Asked Questions

What tests are done in a female fertility assessment?

Usually a consultation, hormone tests such as AMH, FSH, LH, TSH and prolactin, an ovulation test, a pelvic ultrasound and, where advised, a fallopian tube test. Only the tests relevant to you are ordered.

When is the best time to have fertility tests?

Some hormone tests need days 2 to 4 of your period, and the tube test is done after your period and before ovulation. AMH, TSH and prolactin can be done on any day.

Does my partner also need testing?

Ideally yes. Male factors contribute to close to half of all infertility cases, and a semen analysis is a simple first test.

Can fertility tests find the cause every time?

Not always. In a proportion of couples all tests are normal, which is called unexplained infertility, and treatment options still exist.

How is PCOS tested?

From your cycle pattern, signs of high androgens on examination or blood tests, and an ultrasound of the ovaries, once other causes such as thyroid disease and high prolactin are excluded.

Are fertility tests painful?

Blood tests and ultrasound are generally comfortable. The tube test can cause period-like cramps for a short time, and pain relief is advised beforehand.

How long do results take?

Most blood test results are ready within a few days, and ultrasound results are available on the day. We explain them in a follow-up consultation.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can message the clinic on WhatsApp to book, whether or not you have previous reports.
